The Blythe Valley Community Catchment Group is committed to preserving and developing the natural environment and biodiversity of the Blythe Valley and surrounding areas, through pest trapping, native plantings, fencing off wetlands and land for QEII covenants, river and bird monitoring amongst other projects.
~ 4800 natives planted on Ki Taurangi, Nape Nape Farm, Manuka Downs, Toi Toi Farm, Pendle Hill plus others
Supplemental plantings to replace plants lost this season (planned)
~700 totara seedlings now 18 months old – plant out as a mini totara forest (planned 2026)
4 Ha wetland fenced off
48 Ha QEII covenant created in the process of being deer fenced
Trapping program extended to cover over 14,400 Ha of land owned or managed by participants
Second annual SHMAK – stream walk with water quality and eDNA led by Hurunui District Landcare Group
